A high-risk pregnancy is one in which the mother or foetus has an increased chance of experiencing complications during pregnancy, labour, or delivery. A high-risk pregnancy can be due to several factors, such as age, health conditions, multiple foetuses, or a history of complications during previous pregnancies.
In some cases, women with high-risk pregnancies may be advised to have a planned caesarean section (C-section) to reduce the risk of complications during delivery. However, in other cases, a normal delivery may still be possible with close monitoring and proper medical management. The doctor provides personalised recommendations and appropriate prenatal care based on the patient’s condition to minimise any potential risks and increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
Recovering from a normal delivery after a high-risk pregnancy can take several weeks or months, depending on the individual woman’s physical and emotional state. It’s important to rest, take care of the physical health, and allow enough time for the body to heal.
