A hernia is a condition in which a part of an internal organ bulges through a weak point in the surrounding muscle or tissue. This can occur in different parts of the body, including the abdomen, groin, and upper thigh. The most common type of hernia is inguinal hernia, which affects the groin area.
Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernioplasty is a surgical procedure used to repair inguinal hernias in a minimally invasive manner. During the procedure, the patient is given general anaesthesia and placed in a supine position. The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdominal area and inserts a laparoscope and other instruments. The hernia is located, the protruding tissue is pushed back into place, the hernia sac is removed, and the weak area in the abdominal wall is reinforced with mesh. The incisions are then sealed.Â
Recovery after laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty includes pain management through medication, rest for a few days with a gradual increase in physical activity and follow-up appointments with the surgeon. It is strongly advised to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks.Â
