Triple Vessel Disease is a type of coronary artery disease in which the major blood vessels that supply blood to the heart are blocked due to hard deposits called plaques. This can happen due to poor lifestyle choices, obesity, diabetes, smoking, and a lack of physical activity. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCTA) is a nonsurgical procedure used to treat narrowing of the coronary arteries of the heart.
In this procedure, the catheter is inserted into an artery of the groin, arm, or wrist, and the catheter is advanced towards the heart, and a series of x-ray pictures (coronary angiogram) are taken to clearly visualize the narrowed blood vessels. Then a balloon-tipped catheter is advanced into the narrowed coronary artery, and the balloon is inflated and deflated several times, compressing the plague against the artery wall and widening the artery so blood flow improves.
Mr. Darpally Shatrughna from Hyderabad successfully underwent PTCA for Triple Vessel Disease at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Kala Jeethender Jain, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist.
