India’s First Cone Beam Ct Guided Lung Biopsy

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has emerged as an important imaging tool in interventional pulmonology primarily used during transbronchial biopsy of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLS). This technology has revolutionised diagnosing Lung Cancer at a very early stage making the patients potential candidates for surgical resection.

CBCT provides an intra-procedural threedimensional (3D) image dataset and can potentially impact all phases of diagnostic bronchoscopy:Navigation, Confirmation & Tissue Acquisition, that addresses the need for earlier precision diagnosis and minimally-invasive treatment with an all-in-one platform that enables doctors to perform biopsy, ablation, marking of lesions, and / or thoracic surgery procedures in the same room, allowing patients to be both diagnosed and treated. Its ability to locate and characterize small-sized lesions could significantly enhance future of Lung Cancer care.

Cone-Beam CT-guided biopsy is a highly accurate and safe technique with a sensitivity of 91.5% and a specificity of 100%. For this application, CBCT has proved useful in navigating devices to a target lesion, in confirming device tool-in-lesion, as well as during tissue acquisition.

Division of Interventional Pulmonology, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad becomes the first Hospital in the country to perform Cone Beam CT Guided Lung Biopsy – The Gold Standard for Diagnosing Lung Nodules.

Yashoda Hospitals is one of the largest Quaternary center for Pulmonology & Critical Care in India, with three decades of healthcare presence. Specializes in treating high volumes of Pulmonary Critical Care patients, particularly through Minimally Invasive Procedures, thus ensuring the best outcomes for our patients.
