What is Elbow Bursitis?

Olecranon bursitis is a condition defined by swelling, redness, and pain at the tip of the elbow. It occurs in the olecranon bursa, a thin, fluid-filled sac that is found in the boney tip of the elbow.

There are a lot of bursae located in the body that function as cushions between bones and soft tissues, like skin. They tend to contain a small amount of lubricating fluid that supports the soft tissues to move freely.

Elbow Olecranon bursa is flat in shape. As it becomes more irritated or inflamed over time, the more fluid will accumulate in the bursa leading to further development of bursitis.
