A Revolutionary, Non-Surgical Technique for Tumor Resection Using EFTR
A 45-year-old patient with morbid obesity and diabetes presented with acidity symptoms. Upon evaluation, he was found to have a tumor in the stomach, which was subsequently confirmed to be a neuroendocrine tumor. The Gallium Dotanoc scan did not show any distant or locoregional spread. Given his morbid obesity, which would increase his surgical risk, and after discussing with the patient, we performed Endoscopic Full Thickness Resection (EFTR), a minimally invasive procedure alternative to conventional surgery.
We are delighted to inform you that with no cuts or surgery, we were able to remove a tumor in the stomach, and it was done as an outpatient procedure. The time taken to remove the tumor was 15 minutes. The patient started to have food within 1 hour and got discharged within 2 hours, as with any other endoscopy. This procedure assisted in providing treatment without the need for major surgery, resulting in significant cost savings and a shorter hospital stay. This case is another live example of the latest state of the art advancements and skills in Gastroenterology and Hepatology medicine.
