Thyroid problems in children refer to abnormal functioning of the thyroid gland, leading to either overproduction (hyperthyroidism) or underproduction (hypothyroidism) of hormones.
Treatment involves medications to regulate hormone production. In case of hyperthyroidism, antithyroid drugs are prescribed to slow down the production of thyroid hormones, while in hypothyroidism, the child is given daily hormone replacement therapy to replace the hormones the thyroid is not producing.
Recovery from thyroid problems varies from child to child and depends on factors such as age, overall health, and the underlying cause of the problem. However, with proper medical treatment, most children with thyroid problems can lead a healthy and normal life. Regular monitoring and adjusting of hormone levels is important to ensure continued proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
