Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Test

Cytomegalovirus is a viral disease caused by cytomegalovirus. It does not show any symptoms in affected patients, and the body produces antibodies to fight the virus. Thus, the CMV test is performed to determine the number of IgG antibodies. The positive test result means that the patient has the IgG antibodies of the CMV virus in the body and has been affected by the virus in the past. A negative result means that the patient has never been exposed to the virus. We will be answering a few commonly asked questions about the CMV test.

What is a CMV test used for?

Understanding the result of the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Test

A positive result signifies that the patient is currently infected with the cytomegalovirus in the past. A negative result signifies that the transmitted virus has never infected the patients. If the test has been ordered to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment, the doctor may look for the levels of the IgG antibodies of the CMV in the blood.
